Artist's Comments

This is a piece I'm donating to :iconartforawbar:--they take care of abandoned baby wildlife. It's a small organization that I can relate to--when you live out in the country you find all kinds of little things that need a home. I've raised baby ducks, bunnies, kitties...you name it. If you want to help AWBAR, you can buy this print and more on their DA page.

I got to use an adorable reference [link] by :iconfoowahu: who runs the AWBAR page and this little guy was actually a rescued raccoon. Check out her page, she has a ton of really great animal shots.

This is also part of my local creature series, take a look at the rest of the series if you'd like:

As always I would love to hear your thoughts on this piece, doing fur seems to be a constant struggle for me.

Materials:
8x8 Bristol Vellum
.5 and .3 B, 2B Mechanical, 9B and HB woodless graphite
Kneaded and electric eraser ( I just got that crazy little thing, and man does it erase! I know it might sound like a ridiculous thing, but I really do recommend it.)
smudgers
15-ish hours

Critiques

:iconart-fromthe-heart:
This little raccoon has a big impact - raised by people because of abandoment or other misfortune and it can be seen in this artwork. The eyes are gorgeous, they seem to stare deep into the soul. I can almost feel the wetness of the little nose! The fur, though well drawn, is a little clumpy and appears more wet than fluffy. The values and perspective are great. I believe there should be a tad more value in the forehead, depending on if this particular raccoon has white ticked hair. Overall, this is a wonderful artwork, worthy of attention, and perfect for bringing awareness to animal abandonment. Keep up the great work! :D

Wow....just wow! I initially thought this was a photograph you had taken and I was going to ask you if I could use it as reference to draw :P
Amazing fur skills. So many different shades and textures it's almost like I could just reach out and touch it. The ridges on the nose are fabulous. I dunno how you do.
You've got some astounding talents!!
My tiger will be greatly inferior to that piece of art.
