Artist's Comments

Did this today just for some fun. This is my friend Katie :iconwhat-a-kitsch:, same as the model for the last portrait I did.
I like this because this is the kind of expression I think of when I think of her, she's a very happy little person. I have so many good pictures of the little actress, I can't help but keep drawing her.

I always appreciate opinion, critique, love or advice!

very cool, i love the detail in the hair :)

Haha thank you! I got really impatient with the hair after awhile. After there were no more Law and Order episodes on I was just thinking "Screw it, it's done!" :D

She does indeed look very happy! I think the reason it looks off to you is probably that the mouth is bigger in the drawing than the photo, but without the photo, I wouldn't have thought it was off.

You should be careful when you use a grid, because often with a grid it's easier to lose the gesture of your reference. But I think you did a pretty good job. Just something to keep in mind if you do it again. It helped me out a lot when I first was learning to paint.
:icontubaqueen:
I just don't know how I could have messed up the mouth that much using the grid, but you are definitely right. Maybe it's the teeth that are too big or something.

I understand what you are saying, I try not to use it more than necessary. I just want to get the simplest outline done with the grid in place and then erase it. I hope that way it won't affect the drawing anymore than if I just measured proportions or something like that.

In part is the photo itself that gives the shocking impression that she's going to jump out the screen. Is made with really wide lens and taken really close, this exagerates the dept of the perspective.

If you set a gallery use this if you REALLY want to call the atention ^^

Behold the Good and Righteous! Whom do they hate the most? One that shatters their Tablets of Values, the crusher, the criminal: --- but that is the Creator!

Ha ha, yeah I really liked the perspective of the picture, I thought it would be fun to try. It make the portrait a little different from what you might usually see :D

Yeahh haha, it was a real challenge. Beside the curly hair... A nightmare drawing it (that's why I didn´t make a self portrait).

Woww !
Again this is a really good drawing.
The only thing i have to say is, looking at the reference photo, there is more gum showing at the top of the mouth which is probably why you think the teeth are too big.
Other than that its really good and i love the detail in the hair and the eyes. :)

Given the facial expression, you would've taken away from it had you included any background. It's very nicely framed; I'm really enjoying the composition.

There's definitely difference between the drawing and the reference, but I think it's a nice difference. The drawing, while perhaps not fully accurate, works very well and has the sense of a complete piece, which is more important than how close it is to the reference.

The detail work in this is stunning. I admire your patience. I always find myself getting horribly bored when trying to do complicated things like curly hair.

It's a really beautiful piece. :)
