A commission piece I completed this morning. For an acquaintance's mother, apparently this awesome pooch was on animal planet for some sort of Purina challenge. This is as close to a celebrity portrait that I have done, ha ha.

I think this is one of your best yet. You're definitely still improving. I'm not much for critiques since I usually draw a blank as soon as I click that button and always have a hard time putting my appreciation for visuals into words other than generics like "really" and "good."
I will say that the stark contrast of the white dog against the dark background (always enjoy your backgrounds) catches my eye every time...but what really makes this work stand out is the cascading highlight pattern on the fur created by your line work that tapers down from the top of the snout to the bottom right corner. It creates a defined sense of dimension and realism.
There's also the excellent attention to detail on the head, teeth, eyes, and ear that seem to be slightly sharper than the rest of the piece. This effect draws the viewer upward to the dog's excited face and gives a feeling of movement and jubilation in Superpup.
These elements all combine to give your drawing a prominent flow and composition.
Whaddya know?! I guess I did have a critique in me after all.
hey! awesome job. i like how you used your strokes to give that flow to the fur, very nice. also the background i would say is one of the most important things in this piece. By making it darker directly behind the subject, it makes the dog pop which is very pleasing. keep up the great work
